Keyboard shortcuts
wispa is driven by a few global hotkeys. Here are the defaults and how holding differs from tapping.
2 min read
wispa uses global hotkeys, so they work in every app. These are the defaults, and you can change any of them in Settings.
| Action | Default shortcut |
|---|---|
| Dictate | ⌥Space on Mac, Ctrl+Alt+Space on Windows |
| Switch mode | ⇧⌥K |
| Voice command | ⇧⌥Space |
| Cancel recording | Esc |
| Stop and press Enter | ⌘↩ |
Each recording hotkey is push-to-talk in a hybrid way: hold it down and release to stop, or tap once to start and tap again to stop. That means short phrases and long dictations both feel natural. Turn on auto-enter if you want wispa to press Enter for you after it inserts the text.

Questions and answers
Can I change the hotkeys?
Yes. Every shortcut, including dictation, mode switch, command mode, cancel and stop, can be reassigned in Settings. wispa checks for clashes between its own shortcuts.
What is the difference between holding and tapping?
Holding records while the key is down and stops when you release it. Tapping once starts recording and a second tap stops it, which is easier for long dictations.
