Creating and editing modes
Build a mode from a template, set its model and optional cleanup, save it, and switch to it from the tray, the mode switcher or the header.
3 min read
New modes start from a template so you are not staring at a blank setup. A new mode is a draft until you save it, so you can experiment freely.
- Open Modes from the sidebar and start a new one.
- Pick a template: Default Plus, Email, Markdown, Slack, or a blank custom mode.
- Set the model and language the mode should use.
- Optionally turn on AI cleanup and describe how the text should be styled.
- Save. The mode is now available everywhere you switch modes.
Switching modes
Switch modes three ways: from the tray or menu bar, with the mode switcher hotkey ⇧⌥K, or from the mode dropdown in the app header. Whatever you pick becomes the active mode for your next recording. See Keyboard shortcuts.

Questions and answers
Do I lose my draft if I close the window?
A mode is only stored once you save it. Save before closing if you want to keep a draft you have been editing.
Can I reorder modes?
Yes. Drag a mode by its grab handle to reorder, with a live preview of where it will land. The order is reflected in the switcher and dropdown.
