Modes and cleanup

Creating and editing modes

Build a mode from a template, set its model and optional cleanup, save it, and switch to it from the tray, the mode switcher or the header.

3 min read

New modes start from a template so you are not staring at a blank setup. A new mode is a draft until you save it, so you can experiment freely.

  1. Open Modes from the sidebar and start a new one.
  2. Pick a template: Default Plus, Email, Markdown, Slack, or a blank custom mode.
  3. Set the model and language the mode should use.
  4. Optionally turn on AI cleanup and describe how the text should be styled.
  5. Save. The mode is now available everywhere you switch modes.

Switching modes

Switch modes three ways: from the tray or menu bar, with the mode switcher hotkey ⇧⌥K, or from the mode dropdown in the app header. Whatever you pick becomes the active mode for your next recording. See Keyboard shortcuts.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Do I lose my draft if I close the window?

A mode is only stored once you save it. Save before closing if you want to keep a draft you have been editing.

Can I reorder modes?

Yes. Drag a mode by its grab handle to reorder, with a live preview of where it will land. The order is reflected in the switcher and dropdown.
