Languages

wispa transcribes dozens of languages through Whisper, and its own interface comes in English, German, Spanish and French.

2 min read

There are two language settings to keep apart: the language you dictate in, and the language wispa's own interface is shown in.

Dictation languages

Whisper is multilingual and handles dozens of languages, including English and German, automatically. You can leave a mode on automatic detection, or set a specific language in the mode for the most reliable results when you always dictate in the same one.

The app's interface language

wispa's interface is available in English, German, Spanish and French. By default it follows your system language and falls back to English. You can set it explicitly in Settings under appearance.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Do I have to pick a language before dictating?

No. Whisper can detect the language automatically. Setting a fixed language in a mode can improve accuracy if you always dictate in the same one.

Can I switch languages between recordings?

Yes. Either rely on automatic detection, or keep separate modes for each language and switch modes when you change.

Is the interface language the same as the dictation language?

No, they are independent. You can run the interface in German while dictating in English, or any other combination.
