Downloading and managing models

The model library is where you download local models, switch which one is active, and free up space when you no longer need one.

2 min read

Local models live in wispa's Models section, its built-in library. From there you download the models you want, activate one, and remove the rest.

  1. Open Models from the sidebar.
  2. Use the provider filter to narrow the list, then pick a model that fits your machine.
  3. Click download and wait for it to finish. Larger models take longer and use more space.
  4. Activate the model you want to use, or set it inside a specific mode.

Where models are stored

Downloaded Whisper models are kept in wispa's application support folder. Sizes range from around 40 MB for Tiny up to roughly 1.6 GB for the largest, so keep an eye on space if you download several.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Can I have more than one model downloaded?

Yes. Download as many as you like and switch between them per mode. Only the active model does the work, the rest just sit on disk.

Do cloud models need downloading?

No. Cloud models run on the provider's servers, so there is nothing to download. You only add your API key and pick the provider in a mode.
