Cloud API keys
wispa lets you bring your own API keys for cloud transcription and AI cleanup. Keys are stored on your device, and you stay in control.
3 min read
wispa does not resell any cloud service. Instead you bring your own API key from a provider, and wispa uses it on your behalf. That keeps you in direct control of usage and billing.
What a key unlocks
- Cloud transcription. With an OpenAI or Groq key you can transcribe in the cloud instead of on your device.
- AI cleanup and commands. With a key from any supported provider, a mode can run an optional cleanup step, and command mode can interpret free-form phrasing.
Where your keys are stored
Keys are saved locally in wispa's settings on your own computer. They are never sent to us, only to the provider they belong to when you make a request. You can remove a key at any time.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Does wispa see or store my key?
Your key is stored locally on your device and sent only to its own provider when needed. It is never sent to wispa's servers, wispa has no servers for this.
Do I need a key at all?
No. A local model needs no key. You only add a key if you want cloud transcription or the optional AI cleanup and command features.
Who pays for cloud usage?
You do, directly to the provider. wispa is free in beta, but cloud providers bill their own usage to the key you add.
